We are thrilled to share the trailer for a new short documentary from Pandion Creative and oakpool titled Dragon Mom. The film is directed by our good friend and partner Harrison Buck, and follows Laura Will and her son Alden Nicholson. Alden was born with polymicrogyria, a rare neurological condition. He does not speak, and he uses a wheelchair to move around the world. The film remains close as Laura and Alden work out how Alden can move through the landscape, including the freedom he finds in the sit-ski.
The story is not framed as triumph or tragedy. It is simply a mother and a child finding space, breath, and possibility. It asks us to look more carefully at who is welcomed into the outdoors, and who is left out. It suggests that the ability to explore and to play should not depend on circumstance. That the natural world can be a form of healing if one is allowed to be in it.
